2011 Château La Serre

Deep ruby. Cassis, violet and truffle on the rich nose. Then sweet and smooth on the palate, with ripe tannic support for the wine's red fruit, tobacco and loam flavors. At once creamy and lively on the persistent finish. Insiders know that La Serre does very well in dry years thanks to the high clay content of its soil. So just like in 2003, when this wine was a major success, it performed well in 2011 too.

Thickly layered, with plum pâte de fruit, currant paste and braised fig notes tumbled together and wrapped with chewy, briary grip. Gives way to enticing spice and licorice accents on the finish, gaining polish with air. Should settle in with moderate cellaring. Best from 2016 through 2024. 1,710 cases made.

An impressive dark ruby/purple color is followed by a juicy 2011 offering lots of cherry jam, spice and earth. Medium-bodied, pure and surprisingly concentrated, this wine should improve and age nicely for 10-12 years.
