"This vintage had very cool and dry weather with a strong mistral wind and not much rain. It's a powerful wine with aromas of cherries, raspberry and a floral hint. The palate is dense with layers of red fruit, combining power and concentration with minerality. The tannins are still compact but wonderfully integrated; this is a very young wine with many more years ahead before it reaches its prime." - Christelle Guibert (11/2017)

The 2005 Châteauneuf-du-Pape opens with meaty gradations, followed by dried fruits, forest floor, tobacco and grilled herbs. Savory and expressive, this fleshy red remains firmly structured by grippy tannins yet captures wonderful freshness. Finishing with lovely persistence, the 2005 should continue to drink well over the next five years.

For a vintage that was very closed at the beginning, this is now so effusive and sensual. The hint of salted caramel beautifully complements the rich red fruit character. Also notes of licorice, cinnamon and star anise. Rich and full-bodied, but very elegant and silky. The power is underplayed, but there's no mistaking the stunning concentration and finesse. Drink or hold. (04/2024)

Young but far from unapproachable, the 2005 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape has screaming aromatics of bloody meats, iron, and truffle that are wrapped around a gorgeously fruited core. Medium to full bodied with beautiful structure, a solid, full mid-palate, a smooth, precise texture and a long finish, this is a smoking bottle of wine! Give it another 3 to 5 years in the cellar and then drink over the following 20. (08/2010)
