2008 Barolo "La Serra": 96+ Punkte

The 2008 Barolo La Serra emerges from the glass with dark red fruit, tar, smoke, licorice, spices and new leather. Today the 2008 comes across as surprisingly dark and masculine. The high-toned floral notes that are typical of this site have been replaced by a much darker, brooding register filled with tar, incense and black fruit notes. The wine freshens up beautifully with time in the glass as the aromatics become a bit more expressive. Voerzio's 2008 La Serra is a huge and hugely promising wine. The firm tannins argue for at least a few more years in bottle. A hint of rose petal lingers on the intese finish. - Antonio Galloni (04/2012)

2008 Barolo "Rocche dell' Annunziata": 96 Punkte

The 2008 Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata/Torriglione impresses for its silky tannins and overall textural finesse. It shows striking mid-palate richness and gorgeous inner sweetness to match its beautifully delineated, expressive bouquet. Stylistically it is a bit on the masculine side, but very beautiful just the same. Layers of flavor build to the huge, dramatic finish. The Rocche presents a very classic aromatic and flavor profile backed up by serious heft and structure. It is the sweetest and most seductive of the 2008s. Readers will need to be especially patient, though. The Rocche shuts down hard in the glass. It won't be an easy wine, but those who can wait will be handsomely rewarded. - Antonio Galloni (04/2012)

2008 Barolo Cerequio: 97+ Punkte

Roberto Voerzio’s 2008 Barolo Cerequio is flat-out stunning. It is one of the favorites with this group, and it is easy to see why. A benchmark example of this great La Morra site, the 2008 captivates the heart and intellect with its generous, inviting fruit and seductive personality. With a little air the 2008 can be enjoyed today, but it will be even better in another handful of years. Still, on this night is superb. - Antonio Galloni (11/2013)

2008 Barolo Brunate: 98 Punkte

The 2008 Barolo Brunate is beautifully balanced from start to finish. Freshly cut flowers, mint, licorice, hard candy and dark red fruit are layered in this utterly impeccable Barolo. Waves of fruit build toward a huge, dramatic finish supported by serious tannins, yet the Brunate remains one of the more understated wines here. The Brunate is all about length, weightless elegance and an elusiveness that is only matched by the greatest Burgundies. This is a dazzling effort. Readers should expect the Brunate to take the better part of a decade to become expressive. Following the Brunate over the course of several days was immensely rewarding. - Antonio Galloni (04/2012)

2008 Barolo "La Serra": 92 Punkte

Subtle aromas of blueberries and porcini mushrooms follow through to a full body, with soft and silky tannins and a delicate chocolate and berry aftertaste. Hard not to drink now but will improve with age. (07/2012)

2008 Barolo "Rocche dell' Annunziata": 97 Punkte

The aromas to this are captivating with rose petals and blueberries and incense. Full-bodied, with very fine tannins and a long finish that caresses yet stimulates my palate. I like this a little better than the 2007. Try it in 2015. (12/2012)

2008 Barolo Cerequio: 93 Punkte

Peach stone and dark fruits such as blackberries with a fresh basil undertone. Full body, with refined tannins and a delicately fruity finish. Turns chewy and racy at the finish. Better in 2015. (07/2012)

2008 Barolo Brunate: 93 Punkte

Blackberries with hints of coffee and dried flowers on the nose. Turns to mushrooms. Full body, with firm and chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Tight and not giving much. Needs a couple of years to soften on the palate. (07/2012)

2008 Barolo Cerequio: 93 Punkte

Starts out with cherry, raspberry and underbrush flavors, backed by dense, fine grained tannins, turning tighter and more closed in as it builds on the palate. Yet this remains fresh in the end, finding balance and lingering with a hint of coffee. Best from 2016 through 2032. 333 cases made. - B.S.

2008 Barolo Cerequio: 97 Punkte

The 2008 Barolo Cerequio comes across as dark, powerful and rich. Black cherries, leather, spices, licorice and tar are some of the nuances that take shape in this intense Cerequio. Here, too, the flavors are dark and brooding. With time in the glass, the Cerequio turns suave, polished and elegant, all qualities that are typical of this site, but the 2008 never fully drops its sheer muscle. The 2008 remains big, powerful and structured. A finessed finish covers every inch of the palate with small bursts of energetic dark red fruit. This is another drop-dead gorgeous wine from Roberto and Davide Voerzio. Little of the early appeal and sensuality that is typical of Cerequio is to be found in the 2008, so readers will have to be patient. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2028. - Antonio Galloni (04/2012)
