Der Les Champs Libres 2018 zeigt eine kräftige Farbe und entfaltet ein Bouquet von getrockneten Äpfeln, Birnen, Zitronenzesten, grüner Papaya und gerösteten Mandeln. Mit der Zeit werden die Aromen offener und entfalten sich noch weiter. Am Gaumen zeigt er eine leichte Gewürznote, begleitet von süßen Äpfeln, Pfirsichhaut, einer leicht bitteren Grapefruitnote und einer angenehmen Säure. Trotz des neuen Holzes zeigt er keinerlei Eichennoten. Der Abgang wird von einer fantastischen Frische mit mineralischen Noten begleitet. Ein schöner, strammer und konzentrierter Weißwein, der zu überzeugen weiß!

The 2018 Les Champs Libres, matured in Burgundy barrels on the fine lees, offers crisp apple blossom, Conference pear and light candle wax scents on a nose that gradually opens with aeration. The palate is lightly spiced on the entry, with Granny Smith apples, peach skin and quite a saline, almost Loire-like finish that feels very persistent. Excellent.

Aromas of dried apples, lemon zest, green papaya, herbs and toasted almonds. It’s full-bodied with tangy acidity. Exciting citrus zest, stones and wild herbs on the long finish. This needs time to come around with such acid and phenolic tension. Try after 2023. (2021)

The 2018 Guinaudeau Vignerons Les Champs Libres Blanc is 100% Sauvignon from clay and limestone soils. It was vinified in new barrels and spent 5 months on lees. A beautiful, tight, concentrated white, it offers lots of tart lemon, white grapefruit, honeyed lime, and sappy flower-like nuances as well as a brilliant chalky mineral component that emerges with time in the glass. Despite the new barrels, it doesn't show a hint of oak and is medium-bodied, with bright acidity and a great finish. It's going to benefit from a year or three of bottle age and will keep for 10-15 years, if you're so inclined. (2021)

The Les Champs Libres 2018 Blanc is made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre sélection massale clones, produced by the very talented Guinaudeau family (of Chateau Lafleur fame). It offers up a beguiling nose of lemon drops, lime blossoms, struck flint and fresh grapefruit with hints of mandarin peel and coriander seed. The elegant, refreshing, medium-bodied palate has an electric line of intense citrus flavors with tons of mineral sparks, finishing long and perfumed. This is absolutely a wine without peer in Bordeaux (anywhere!), and I love it!
