"Bright ruby with a fine garnet shimmer. Fragrant and appealing on the nose, of fresh roses, blood oranges and crisp cherries. Also very fruity on the palate, cranberries and cherries, fine tannins, very easy to drink."  - Othmar Kiem, Simon Staffler (02/2026)

"Giodo’s newest release, Prètto is a collaboration between Carlo Ferrini and his 35-year-old daughter Bianca. Crafted with the latter’s generation in mind, it aims at highlighting freshness and an immediate drinkability without denaturing the spirit of Brunello. It swirls with appealing Mediterranean herbs, vanillin and mandarin orange. Well formed, plump and toothsome stone fruits are accompanied by soft, fine tannins which flit decorously around the edges. This achieves depth without weightiness, and richness with vibrancy." -  Michaela Morris (11/2025)

Crushed black raspberries combine with shavings of cedar, sweet lavender and crushed violets as the 2021 Brunello di Montalcino Pretto forms its darkly alluring bouquet. Juicy upon entry, it offers fresh acidity and a cascade of ripe red and blue fruits, while inner violet florals add a lovely perfumed character. The wine displays exceptional length and balanced structure, leaving a citrus twang to enliven the finish.

A new wine that is a cask selection. It’s certainly different from the normal bottling, with aromas of red cherries, cedar, hibiscus and crushed stones. The palate shows round tannins and a juicy and savory finish. A second wine of this estate. From organically grown grapes. Best after 2028. (12/2025)

Pouring a bright ruby red hue, the 2021 Brunello Di Montalcino Pretto is tense and nervous on opening, with expressive aromatics of sassafras, orange peel, cranberries, cedar, cinnamon, and a subtle hint of saddle leather. The palate is medium-bodied and tangy, with bracing acidity, coiled tannins, and a mouthwatering finish that keeps it snappy and precise. Tasted a second time at the estate, it feels more open-knit, with plush tannins and a more approachable flow while still retaining its bright energy. Designed to be a touch earlier-drinking and offered at a lower price point, it should show beautifully with a bit of patience. Drink 2026-2040.

Needs an enthusiastic swirl in the glass to open, then reveals lavender, wild strawberry, and anise. Very finely tuned in structure, with silty, compact tannins and a refreshing wash of acidity across the palate. Quite dignified in its restraint, showing a lovely and balanced window into the region and the vintage, with a medium-long finish.

Showing a more jovial personality, this new wine from Carlo Ferrini is meant to bridge the gap between his Rosso and the flagship Giodo Brunello. The Giodo 2021 Brunello di Montalcino Prètto represents a new mid-level Brunello, a category increasingly shaped by a market less tolerant of overpriced wines. In the Tuscan dialect, Prètto means “truthful” or “sincere.” It delivers punchy fruit achieved through a slow 20-day skin maceration, along with spice, white pepper and pressed violet. Slightly more accessible in style, the wine still maintains good freshness and balance, reflecting Ferrini’s intent to offer an honest and immediately appealing Brunello. The wine is released in a production of 15,000 bottles from fruit selected across four hectares of vines.
