The 2021 Brunello di Montalcino entices with its bouquet of crushed rocks, rosemary, orange zest and dried black cherries. It is polished in feel, with a cascade of wild berry fruits and autumnal spices that ride a wave of pure silk. Long and structured yet not severe, the 2021 leaves the senses clenched with primary concentration while still watering for more.

The purity of fruit and elegance are so beautiful, perfumed and ethereal. it’s medium-bodied with ultra-fine tannins and gorgeous black cherries, blackberries and brambleberries with a hint of cedar. Vibrant finish. From organically grown grapes. Better in 2028 and beyond. (12/2025)

Pouring a bright red hue with orange-tinged edges, the 2021 Brunello Di Montalcino is high-toned and shy on opening, but it begins to unfurl with air, revealing mint, blood orange, redcurrants, cranberries, juniper, and brambly herbs. The palate is medium-bodied and beautifully structured, with a mouthwatering spine of acidity, fine, coiled tannins, and a long finish that stays lifted and precise. Tasted a second time, it comes together more completely, gaining seamless suppleness and deeper mineral underpinnings that carry through the finish. It’s a fantastic Brunello that should only improve for decades. Drink 2027-2050. (02/2026)

The 2021 Brunello di Montalcino is a bit closed at the date of tasting and needed time in the glass to reveal itself. As it opened, it showed brooding dark fruits, mint, and white pepper. The acidity is a bit disjointed and stands apart from the wine, finishing with herbal notes and tar.

This red starts out supple in texture, gaining depth midpalate before ending with a layer of chewy tannins. Flavors of black cherry, blackberry, plum, iron and macchia occupy the space between. All of the components are there; this just needs time. Shows excellent balance and freshness.

This is the top-end wine from Carlo Ferrini. The Giodo 2021 Brunello di Montalcino shows notable elegance and grace, especially in this classic vintage. It holds back at first, inviting patience, which bodes well for its long-term aging potential. There is complexity and beauty, and the wine clearly separates itself from the mid-tier "Prètto" bottling, as expected. Giodo moves with delicate footprints, and on returning to an open bottle the next day, the streamlined mouthfeel and lasting freshness became even more apparent, reflecting both the classic nature of the year and the maturity of the vineyards. Production has been significantly reduced to 8,500 bottles, compared to 16,000 bottles in 2020, with all fruit sourced from 20-year-old vines and selected barrique by barrique to create a wine of depth and precision.
