2022 "Alte Burg" Spätburgunder Großes Gewächs

Stunning nose of black cherries, violets and bitter chocolate. Rich and concentrated with very fine tannins, this is a stunner that has such an immediate appeal in spite of the great structure supporting all of this. Extremely long, velvety finish that’s a delight to behold. The first vintage in which the wines from this site qualified as a GG. Drink or hold.

Pure and deep on the nose, full of ripe dark fruits and always fresh and elegant, the 2022 Spätburgunder Alte Burg GG is more ethereal than Julian Huber's other Pinot Noirs GG. On the palate, it is elegant, again fresh and at the same time firm and still youthful, with a certain astringency and yet also juicy fruit intensity. It is not nearly as dimensioned and complex as, for example, the sensational Schlossberg, but it is also excellent. Tasted at the Vorpremiere VDP.Grosses Gewächs in Wiesbaden in August 2024.
