The 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin is on track to rank alongside the spectacular 2020. This year, the final blend is 60% Mourvèdre, 20% Grenache and the remainder equally split between Syrah and Counoise. The magnificent result bursts with intense spice box, licorice, blackberry jam, blackcurrant, crushed flowers, forest strawberry and peppercorn. Savory to the core, the tightly structured 2022 is an ambitious Hommage à Jacques Perrin that walks off the stage with an expansive finish.

This powerful, massive red is both finessed and impressively muscular. Oozes sappy blackberry, black currant coulis and violet perfume, yet the ripeness is held in check with a firming wall of iron, stone and black tea tannins. Shows meaty grip on the long finish, which is just beginning to unfurl, unleashing mesquite smoke, menthol freshness and waves of mineral and garrigue. Though starting to open up now, this is one for the cellar. Mourvèdre, Grenache, Counoise and Syrah.
