The 2022 Clos Saint-Martin is quite powerful in this vintage. Sumptuous red/purplish fruit, rose petal, cedar, mocha and tobacco are nicely dialed up. The tannins are a bit searing at this stage, but there's also more than enough depth to make me think this will come together with élevage. Tasted two times.

A racy and refined wine with lavender, sandalwood, and dark fruits. It’s medium- to full-bodied with enticing fruit and fine tannins. Open and polished. 80% merlot, 15% cabernet franc and 5% cabernet sauvignon.

The 2022 Clos Saint-Martin comes from a tiny 1.3-hectare vineyard of clay and limestone soils and is based on 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon. Glass-staining purple-hued, with powerful aromatics of pure cassis, blackberries, spicy oak, graphite, and chalky minerality, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a layered, concentrated mid-palate, remarkable purity, and one hell of a great finish. This is another absolutely brilliant Saint-Emilion that readers will love to have in their cellar. Tasted twice. (2023)

The 2022 Clos Saint-Martin is deep garnet-purple in color. It prances out of the glass with showy notions of Morello cherries, blueberry pie, and preserved plums, giving way to notes of violets and dusty soil. The full-bodied palate has a lively backbone and firm, grainy tannins supporting the taut, muscular fruits, finishing with a lively lift. (05/2023)
