2022 Syrah Rim Rock

The 2022 Syrah Rim Rock Vineyard is packed with black cherry, gravel, incense, game, licorice, chocolate, lavender and dried flowers. This potent, tannic, Old-World-inspired Syrah is bursting with cool-climate varietal character, accented by a liberal use of stems. There's a ton of distinctiveness here.

An unusual, dramatic, assertive wine that comes from a tiny vineyard in the town of Nipomo. It's huge, funky and aromatic, with barnyard, leather, earth and black pepper notes, then graphite, char and raw beef flavors on a medium body. Quite tannic and dry in mouthfeel. Drink now or hold.

The 2022 Syrah Rim Rock Vineyard offers another dimension of complexity and intensity than the already impressive Bien Nacido bottling. The nose is both feral and floral to begin with, building in complexity and refinement to unveil peppery decadence and further savory charm. The palate displays a captivating umami-laden richness that erupts into an explosive, intense and superbly delineated finish. Easily one of the finest Syrahs in Santa Barbara County, this will be a pleasure to watch evolve over the coming decade but challenging to keep one's hands off. - Matthew Luczy (10/2024)
