"Tom Barry shows his intelligence and ambition in this bold winemaking collaboration with Germany’s Dr Ernie Loosen. Chasing a more luscious, slippery texture than typical Clare Valley Riesling, it ferments fruit from Barry's Wolta Wolta vineyard in stainless steel, then rests on yeast lees in a 3,000-litre German oak cask for 16 months, before being transferred to sit on fine lees in stainless steel for another month. This heightens exotic notes of pithy citrus, quince, a lick of oyster shell, melon and nectarine, along with slatey minerality – and this lush fruit profile benefits from an extraordinary, supple backbone of acidity that both elongates and enhances the palate. Sublime." - David Sly (09/2025)

The 2022 Riesling Loosen Barry Wolta Wolta is a collaboration between Ernie Loosen and the Barry family, bringing classic German winemaking to the New World. This jumps out of the glass with engaging brown lime and dried floral notes lifted by savory oak and aging influences. It has incredible concentration to follow. The 2022 is a powerhouse of flavor and acidity that is already highly approachable. Topped by a very long and sustained finish, this is sure to age well.

Mineral aromas of Asian pears, peaches, white nectarines, sliced lemons and kaffir limes. The high-tension palate has racy acidity and an energetic mouthfeel with a lovely texture and reductive edge, showing slate, struck match, brine and white flowers as well as a slight phenolic grip. Excellent. Drink or hold. Screw cap. (04/2025)

The 2022 Loosen Barry Wolta Wolta Dry Riesling is primary, tingly and focused like a needle tip on the palate. There is texture and width here, as with all of the vintages tasted in this vertical here today. The experience of drinking here is enhanced by the presence of elf a small amount of dissolved carbon dioxide in the wine, which emphasizes the lift and levity of the wine. I like it a lot. While the notes here are savory, there is a little residual sugar to soften the blow or mitigate the impact of the high acidity, and this bleeds onto the palate with comfort and plushness. I have loved the wines of 2022 in South Australia, and this wine is no different. The wine carries four to five grams of residual sugar and was matured on gross lees (sans bâtonnage) for two years, followed by a year in bottle prior to release. 12.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.
