The lemon-yellow/lime-green 2023 Chardonnay Astheimer is coolish and intensely floral on the nose that is crunchy, leafy, vegetal and a little reductive. It has dense and ripe yellow fruit yet its aromas are still discreet or even restrained. Textural and elegant on the palate, this is a stimulating saline, crisp yet still reduced and tight Chardonnay that needs some years in the bottle or to be aerated for some hours in a carafe. The finish, however, is crisp and seriously firm, with an intense, saline and lemony taste on the aftertaste. Very promising, this is from younger vines on the shallow, stony Muschelkalk soils of the Astheimer Karthäuser. 12.5% stated alcohol. Diam 10 cork. Tasted in October 2025.
