"Easily the best vintage that I have tried of this wine, such beautiful and vivid brambled berry fruit, spiralling down through the palate, juicy damson pit, iris perfume, fully of energy, depth, vivid and promise. Vines for this are 47 years old planted on St Georges rootstock with largely dry farming. 80% new oak for ageing. A fine example of what the Cathiard family has achieved in a short space of time with this Rutherford property, with winemaker Justine Labbé." (02/2026)

Aromas of blueberries, graphite, iodine, oyster shells, bark and mushrooms come through clearly. Medium-bodied, succulent and juicy with fine, chewy tannins. Extremely long and rather endless. Pure old-vine Cabernet character. Gorgeous now, but better in a few years. (02/2026)

Tasted as a barrel sample, the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon has a vibrant purple hue as well as a riveting perfume of crème de cassis, graphite, crushed stone, and hints of violets. It's pure, focused, and precise on the palate, with full-bodied richness, a seamless mouthfeel, ripe tannins, gorgeous balance, and a great finish. As with everything here, there's a certain Bordeaux-like style in its acid and tannin structure. This will clearly be a brilliant wine. (12/2025)

The single-varietal 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate, from a section of the vineyard at 1,200 feet elevation and the oldest vines, is deep garnet-purple in color. It needs a fair bit of shaking to wake up notes of ripe blackberries, blackcurrant jelly, and anise, leading to an undercurrent of lavender, mint tea, mossy tree bark, and rose oil. The full-bodied palate is very taut and tightly wound with an array of black fruit, earthy, and floral notes, supported by firm, beautifully ripe, grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with epic length and a quiet intensity. The 2023 Cathiard Vineyard Proprietary Red was presented as an approximate blend in August 2025. It was scheduled to be racked and blended into tank in September, then bottled in December. All Cabernet Sauvignon at this point, it's a vibrant, lively effort, with black raspberries and black cherries framed by subtle oak shadings. Full-bodied, rich, concentrated and tightly knit without being austere, it delivers super length and impressive silkiness on the finish.
