The 2023 Bellegrave (Pauillac) has a simple, light, gravel-tinged bouquet that opens nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with sapid red berry fruit and moderate depth. It’s a little rustic given the appellation in question, yet there is admirable substance and satisfying freshness on the gutsy finish. Give this two or three years in bottle.

This has excellent depth, loaded with quality cabernet character. Expect fresh black currants, black olives, graphite, dark minerals and white pepper. Full-bodied and juicy, with lots of creamy, fine-grained tannins before a long, structured but precise finish. Better from 2027.

A blend of 75 % Merlot and 25 % Cabernet Franc, the Bellegrave 2023 is deep garnet-purple in color. It opens with oaky overtones, followed by a core of stewed cherries and fresh strawberries, plus hints of charcoal, bay leaves, and pencil shavings. Light to medium-bodied, the palate is soft, with a light chewiness from the oak tannins and subtle flavors verging on thin, finishing on a woody note. (05/2024)
