The 2023 La Gurgue offers very good depth but is less expressive aromatically than it often is. Strong Cabernet Sauvignon inflections lend plenty of character. There's a bit of tightness in the tannins that suggests heat stress may have been an issue. I am very interested to see what elevage does here.

Black currants and walnuts with a hint of dried flowers on the nose. Medium- to full-bodied, showing great energy and depth, with a focused core of dark fruit. The tannins are firm yet polished. A blend of 62% cabernet sauvignon, 25% merlot, and 13% petit verdot. Already impressive with aeration, but will improve with time. Drink or hold.

The 2023 Château La Gurgue will be terrific, with beautiful red and darker fruits as well as some tobacco, graphite, and chocolate notes. It's balanced, medium-bodied, has fine tannins, and beautiful density. The blend is 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, and 14% Petit Verdot, raised in 15% new French oak. (05/2024)

A blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and fully 13% Petit Verdot, the 2023 La Gurgue exhibits aromas of dark berries, licorice and boot polish, followed by a medium-bodied, fleshy palate built around powdery tannins.
