The 2023 Lassègue is terrific. In fact, it is one of the best wines I have tasted here. A rush of inky dark fruit, crème de cassis, mocha, cloves and chocolate are all dialed up to the maximum in this decidedly opulent Saint-Émilion. Lassègue is not at all subtle, but it has a ton to offer for lovers of rich, heady wines. This is the first vintage in which Cabernet Franc drives the blend. Oak impact, thankfully, has been moderated as well. It remains a pretty lush, super-ripe wine, but it is impeccably balanced. This a terrific effort from Pierre Seillan.

A transparent, rich and clean red with blackberry, blueberry, meat and spice aromas. It’s medium-bodied with a solid core of fruit and a long and flavorful finish. Tight and muscular, with integrated tannins. 50% cabernet franc, 43% merlot, and 7% cabernet sauvignon. Needs three or four years to soften and open. (12/2025)

Coming from the talented Seillan family (also behind the quality at Verite in Sonoma), the 2023 Château Lassegue should be brilliant stuff, offering a dense ruby/plum hue as well as powerful aromatics of spiced red and black fruits, chocolate, and crushed stone. It's a big, rich, textured, medium to full-bodied 2023 with velvety tannins, terrific overall balance, and outstanding length. This cuvée comes from clay and limestone soils in the southern part of the appellation and is 50% Cabernet Franc, 43% Merlot, and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, aging in 50% new oak. It's the first vintage with a majority of Cabernet Franc. (05/2024)

2023 Lasseque has a high toned redcurrant-like nose and a pleasant, crunchy taste with sweet red berries and a fine polished aftertaste. It is a nice offering and a well composed glass of wine for mid term consumption.
