The 2023 Péby-Faugères, 100% Merlot, is a powerful, explosive wine. Inky dark fruit, gravel, spice, menthol, licorice, truffle and sweet scents of new French oak soar out of the glass. In 2023, Péby-Faugères offers a beguiling mix of dense fruit, captivating inner sweetness and bright acids. The aromatics aren't totally focused just yet, but there is potential here. Tasted two times.

Aromas of plums, elderberries, graphite, dark olives, chocolate and touches of blueberries and cedar. The palate is round and velvety, medium- to full-bodied, with excellent definition from chalky tannins and freshness that complements its seamless yet precise texture. Serious and harmonious. From organically grown grapes. Already enjoyable with some aeration, but needs at least a couple of years of cellaring. 100% merlot. Drink after 2027.

The flagship from this brilliant estate, the 2023 Château Péby Faugères comes from the eastern side of the appellation and is all Merlot, raised in plenty of new barrels. Its deep purple hue is followed by powerful aromatics of red and blue fruits, graphite, candied violets, and spicy wood. With full-bodied richness, a plush, expressive, opulent style, and gorgeous tannins, it certainly makes the most of the vintage and is for those who love ripe, seamless, sexy wines that deliver incredible pleasure. The 2023 Peby Faugeres is deep garnet-purple in color. Oaky overtones soon give way to a core of juicy blueberries and baked plums leading to hints of licorice, violets, and sassafras. The medium to full-bodied palate is soft-textured and bright, with a lively backbone and fragrant finish. (05/2024)
