2023 Georges de Latour - Cabernet Private Reserve

The level of refinement and purity is immense, with flashy, perfumed aromas of black currants, olive brine, graphite, violets, mocha and licorice. The palate is in near-perfect balance, with a silken mouthfeel and fine-boned tannins that lead to a refined, pure and succulent finish. This is a truly excellent wine from an excellent vintage. Drink or hold.

Dark and winey, with cassis, boysenberry and black currant preserves for a hefty core, while violet, singed sandalwood and cedar, ink and burnished leather hints add aromatic range. Dense but supple, with a strong tug of loam providing for the lengthy, focused finish. Shows heft and power but is reserved in feel, with a wink to the throwback style. Best from 2029 through 2043.
