"... sehr große, schöne, komplexe Nase und Frucht, sehr aromatisch, viel Kirschen und Cassis, sehr dunkle Frucht, große Struktur, feines Leder, etwas Mokka, schwarze Oliven, feine Schoko-Noten im langen Finale, toll" (09/2026)

"This has got to be one of the best examples of this wine that I have tasted, fragrant, aromatic, chalky in the best way, love the blueberry and black cherry fruit, alongside the freshly cut herbs, drawn out, poised, measured. Harvested right into November. Chloe Asseo director, Stephan Asseo owner and winemaker, from the Willow Creek district of Paso Robles. Name changed to Estate Reserve as of the 2022 vintage, 85% new French oak for ageing." (07/2026)

"Kraftvolles dichtes Bouquet, Espresso, Trüffel, schwarze Waldfrüchte, Cassis, Pflaumen, Tabak, getrockneter Rosmarin, zart Bitterschokolade im Hintergrund. Gute Dichte, saftig, viel feines süßes Tannin, gute Struktur, feine Säure, delikate dichte reife rot- bis schwarzbeerige Frucht, Brombeeren, Maulbeeren, geröstete Kräuter, zart Kakao im Finish, lang." - Hans Martin Gesellmann (09/2026)

Intensely spiced, the 2023 Estate Reserve mixes cedar box, pine, incense, dried sage, crushed stone and mentholated blackberries. It is youthfully dense, tightly focused, silken yet almost sultry in character, with mineral-encased red and black fruits that flood the senses, leaving a coating of edgy tannins in their wake. Heroically structured and incredibly long, the 2023 leaves a minty freshness to counterbalance a tart blackberry saturation through the long, tension-filled finale. Bury this unbridled beast in the cellar. The 2023 is a blend of 50% Syrah, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot and was aged for 21 months in 85% new French oak.

The flagship cuvée of the estate, the 2023 Estate Reserve is based on a Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon blend, and it's this type of blend that's the reason Stephan Asseo made his move from Bordeaux to Paso Robles. Based on 50% Syrah, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Petit Verdot aged 21 months in 85% new French oak, it offers off the chart aromatics of crème de cassis, crushed stone, graphite, violets, and scorched earth on the nose, all framed by perfectly integrated oak. It's medium to full-bodied on the palate, with a concentrated, layered mouthfeel, ultra-fine tannins, and a great, great finish. There are roughly 2,000 cases, and you could safely put this up with the top handful of vintages of this cuvée ever produced. It needs 4-5 years and will see its 30th birthday in fine form. Drink 2031-2053. (09/2026)
