The 2024 La Côte de Lascombes, 100% Merlot, is once again seriously impressive. It possesses striking textural resonance and fabulous balance. Blackberry, licorice, chocolate, new leather, incense and scorched earth all build as this sumptuous Merlot shows off its arresting personality. Despite the challenging vintage on paper, the 2024 is the best La Côte yet, as it captures the learning of the first two vintages. The intent is clear. Axel Heinz is trying to make the Petrus of the Left Bank. He may very well succeed.

Very elegant and refined 100% merlot with a pretty tannin texture and beautiful length and brightness. Violets and black olives with fine tannins. It needs a couple of years to soften. From a single vineyard with limestone and clay soil. Drink from 2027. (10/2025)
