2023 Sta Rita Hills Pinot Noir

The 2023 Pinot Noir (Sta. Rita Hills) is bright and punchy, with plenty of energy driving the balance. Here, too, I find the stem inclusion somewhat intrusive. I am looking forward to tasting from bottle as a finished wine.

A juicy, friendly and rather rich wine, this exudes strawberries, raspberries and sour cherries on a smooth, mildly tannic texture. It's medium bodied, mouth-filling and enjoyable. Drink or hold.

Crunchy acidity carries bright pomegranate and blood orange notes along with alacrity, while chaparral and peppercorn notes in the background lend a rustic edge. Likely a bit too edgy for some folks. Drink now through 2028. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 2,929 cases made.

Tasted prior to bottling, the 2023 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills is dark-fruited, woody and faintly floral, with a sappy, anise-driven side that appears with aeration. The palate is surprisingly generous in texture with a twisted, sturdy and inward tannic profile that should soften and come together after bottling. The negociant arm of Sashi Moorman and Rajat Parr's collaboration, Sandhi continues to deliver purity, focus and precision seemingly on demand. In addition to sourcing from an enviable array of top-tier sites in Sta. Rita Hills, they have begun including sections of the Domaine de la Côte, most notably in the stellar Romance bottling.
