"(Aconcagua Costa DOC; 100% Syrah; 15% whole cluster fermentation; aged for 16 months, 50% in Stockinger foudres, 40% in new French oak barrels, and the remainder in used French oak barrels; 13.5% alcohol). Very much in the same style as the Pinot. Sage. A rather wild and animal element. Heather and moorside herbs. Cherries, plums and raspberry. I find this more singular still than the Pinot Noir. Very pure and crystalline for a wine entirely composed of Syrah. Distinctive and distinctively sapid and racy, energetic and vibrant. There’s just a hint of spice, bringing additional detail and this is both naturally sweeter and a little less peppery than one might imagine, though there’s a little white pepper nonetheless (or is that auto-suggestion?)." "Medium purple. A velvety attack leads to grippy tannins and a muscular finish. Blueberries and small red fruits, fresh ground spices and Kampot pepper. An interesting expression of Syrah from this cool climate location on this Aconcagua Costa estate. Produced from two distinct plots covering 3.2 hectares, with very shallow, rocky soils over a volcano-sedimentary substratum. 50% in Stockinger oak casks, 40% in new French oak barrels, 10% in neutral barrels." - Suzanne Desbois (02/2025)

Coastal Syrah in Chile is still awaiting its emergence on the world stage. The 2023 Syrah Las Pizarras comes from Quillota, just 12 kilometers from the Pacific. Grown on a northwest-facing slope, it achieves a dark varietal profile in this cool climate. It was fermented with 15% whole clusters, and aged for 12 months, half in barrels (40% new) and half in foudres. Deep purple in hue, the 2023 delivers compelling aromas of beetroot, earth and a hint of dried violets. Sleek and suave, the Syrah Laz Pizarras leaves a lingering finish of spice and a subtle nuance of fruit ripeness. A touch of stem character and the wine's signature chalky texture persist on the palate. This is a rich Syrah with a coastal identity. - Joaquín Hidalgo (07/2024)

Aromas of rich creme de cassis, very ripe cherries and hints of light flowers and pepper. Lots of fruit, with a medium to full body. Riper and fruitier this year, but it remains succulent and long, with very fine, chalky tannins delivering vibrations and liveliness. Some black pepper at the end. Drink from 2026. - Zekun Shuai (02/2025)

The 2023 Las Pizarras Syrah stands out as one of Chile's most aromatically exotic and intense examples of Syrah, beginning with an alluring bouquet of black fruits, grilled meats, incense, sandalwood and purple flowers. The palate is exceptionally dense, concentrated and taut, culminating in a lifted, multidimensional finish that strikes a midpoint between rich, savory and refreshing. Similar to my experience with the 2022 iteration of this wine, the nose here continuously evolves, revealing an increasingly floral and perfumed complexity. It fermented with 15% whole clusters and matured for 16 months in 60% French barrels and 40% Austrian foudre. - Matthew Luczy (03/2025)
