The 2024 Insignia is a total turn-on. It is every bit as promising as it was when I tasted it last year. Exuberant dark fruit and imposing tannins are the signatures in a young Insignia that is loaded with potential. Deeply pitched spice, inky dark fruit, crème de cassis, chocolate and lavender are some of the notes that build over time. Today, the 2024 strikes me as a modern-day version of 2001 because it balances fruit intensity with vibrancy and structure. It has really closed up post-bottling; I take that to be a great sign of its long-term potential. Brisk saline notes punctuate the finish. Vineyard sites are Yountville, Banca Dorada, Las Rocas, Barboza, Suscol, Backus and Home Ranch. Aging was 20 months in new French oak.
