91-92 POINTS
"...schöne, frische, hellbeerige Frucht, feine Veilchen, sehr kräftige Säure, Mitte etwas karg, dann doch auch feine Süße im Finish." (04/2025)

Jane Anson: 90 Punkte

"Soft, fragrant, charming. Crisp, bright, vivid plum fruit that has the most grip of the three Vauthier estates on the southern slopes of St Emilion. Harvest 20 September to 5 October. 1/3 in oak, Philippe Baillarguet cellar master. Harvest 20 September to 5 October. 1/3 in oak." (04/2025)

Falstaff: 90 Punkte

"Kräftiges Rubingranat, violette Reflexe, dezente Wasserrandaufhellung. Tabakig, Rote Ribiseln, eingelegte rote Kirschen, verhaltenes Bukett. Schlank, Ribisel, rote Waldbeeren, frisch, mineralisch, zitroniger Touch im Abgang." - Peter Moser (04/2025)

Vinum: 90 Punkte

The Drinks Business: 89-91 Punkte

"After the Simards this is more classical. It has a broader frame but one nicely sculpted by the calcaire tannins, it’s sapid and juicy with a greater range of primary fruits – red and darker berries primarily. Denser at the core and with a little more acidity than the Simards which you have to accept to enjoy this. Gracious tannins and a pleasing clarity and precision." - Colin Hay (04/2025)

Decanter: 90 Punkte

"High toned, almost sharp red fruit start the expression with lifted acidity. This is really quite a gentle expression, fruit is lively but there’s little density, instead there’s a soft layer of chalky tannins which gives the texture and mouthfeel. This works though, it’s harmonious and leans into the vintage taking fruity purity and delivery a charming glass of wine. A subtle chewiness lingers on the finish with raspberry, cranberry and some soft clove and cedar spices. There’s freshness though, cool mint all the way through. I like this light style. A yield of 45hl/ha. Ageing 30% one use barrels. 3.6pH" - Georgina Hinlde (04/2025)

The 2024 Château de Fonbel was picked from September 20 to October 5, with 30% raised in used barrel and the rest in tank. This has a more floral bouquet compared to the Simard and Haut-Simard, with finely delineated blackcurrant and raspberry fruit aromas mixed with touches of white flowers. The palate is medium-bodied with a saline entry. It's edgier and a little more angular than the aforementioned Saint-Émilions with a bit more backbone on the finish. I like the freshness here. It's simple but nicely focused.

A unique blend of 65% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Carmenère, the 2024 Château De Fonbel sports a medium ruby hue as well as spicy, complex notes of red fruits, sappy green herbs, rose, and flowers. It's nicely textured, medium-bodied, has a juicy, lively, very elegant profile, slightly elevated acidity, and a good finish. It will be a complex, elegant, nicely balanced 2024 that will need a few years of bottle age. (05/2025)

Deep garnet-purple colored. Needs a little swirling to coax out notes of raspberries and juicy strawberries, plus suggestions of dried herbs, damp soil, and pencil lead. The medium-bodied palate is lightly chewy and refreshing with an earthy finish. (05/2025)

The 2024 Fonbel offers up notes of plums, dark berries and bay leaf, followed by a medium-bodied, taut and rather structured palate. The estate's Carménère vines frosted, so they only represent 4% of the blend this year.
