2024 Château La Serre

The 2024 La Serre is powerful and a bit burly, as it often is, and yet all the elements are very nicely put together. A blast of dark red-toned fruit, leather, incense, tobacco and dried herbs informs this authoritative Saint-Émilion. There's a touch more Franc in this year's blend, as is common with many 2024s. Tasted two times.

A scented nose, showing grapefruit, herbs and red cherries. Expressive on the medium-bodied palate with fine-grained tannins and a medium-long finish.

Coming from seven hectares of clay and limestone soils, the 2024 Château La Serre is based on 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, raised in 50% new oak. Its medium ruby/purple hue is followed by a pretty perfume of ripe raspberries, sappy spring flowers, and peppery underbrush, with just a kiss of minerality. It's medium-bodied, has a supple, layered, soft mouthfeel, nicely polished tannins, and outstanding length. It's beautifully balanced and is all about charm and finesse. (05/2025)

Deep garnet-purple colored. Notes of black raspberries and fresh blackberries jump from the glass, plus hints of powdered cinnamon and menthol. The light to medium-bodied palate is soft with compelling freshness to lift the red berry flavors on the finish. (05/2025)

The 2024 La Serre offers up attractive aromas of cherries, raspberries, petals and fresh mint, followed by a medium-bodied, ample and pure palate that's precise and vibrant, with good intensity and cut. This is a strong performance from this improving property.
