"...sehr schöne, reife Frucht, sehr angenehme Aromen, nichts ist laut, mittlerer Körper, gute Struktur, gute Säure und gute Tannine, sehr gute Balance." (04/2025)

Jane Anson: 92 Punkte

"Captures the restrained pleasure of the vintage, with tension and just-enough density through the palate to maintain momentum, juicy blackberry fruits laced with crayon and cocoa bean, and a punch of liquorice. Enjoyable, will age, give it three or four years. 21hl/h yield, Fabien Teitgen technical director." (04/2025)

Decanter: 92 Punkte

"Aromatic intensity in terms of blackcurrant leaf, raspberry and dried herbs. Softly chewy tannins open the expression with cooling blue fruit and some minty freshness. This is structured with a wide frame but super light tannins, they haven't pushed this at all. Definitely more focused on the fruit with soft hints of spice and herbs. What it does not have in density it makes up for in clarity and precision. More of an airy style but still with long length. Ageing 30% in new oak barrels. 3.7pH." - Georgina Hindle (04/2025)

Falstaff: 92 Punkte

"Dunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung. Zart nach Heidelbeeren und Cassis, feine Kräuterwürze, ein Hauch von Edelholz. Saftig, elegant, reife Kirschfrucht, gute Frische, präsente Tannine, bleibt haften, ein würziger Speisenbegleiter." - Peter Moser (04/2025)

Vinum: 91 Punkte

"Strahlende Nase, Veilchen, schwarze Johannisbeeren im Duft; gradliniger Gaumen, zupackende Struktur, feine, leicht pudrige Gerbstoffe, zeigt Spannung, endet lang auf Blutorangen, hat Charakter." (04/2025)

The 2024 Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte is powerful and even a touch somber. Graphite, licorice, menthol, dried herbs and blackberry infuse the 2024 with quite a bit of character. Brisk acids and beams of tannin pull it all together on the close. This needs time to come together, as the tannins are a bit edgy at this early stage.

Aromas of violets, dark spices, chestnuts and dark fruit. Good ripeness, with a fresh palate full of juicy blueberries and a touch of dark chocolate. Tannins are tight but polished, with good crunchy fruit and a long finish. 60% cabernet sauvignon and 40% merlot.

The more Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated release, the 2024 Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. It's deep purple-hued and offers classic cassis, graphite, sappy tobacco, and violet notes. On the palate, it's medium-bodied and has a focused, elegant mouthfeel, ripe yet present tannins, and nicely integrated acidity. It's more focused and structured than the Les Hauts de Smith. Deep garnet-purple colored. Features notes of black cherries and black raspberries with nuances of iron ore, powdered cinnamon, and red roses. The medium-bodied delivers fine-grained tannins and lovely freshness to support the bright black and red berry flavors, finishing earthy. (05/2025)

A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, the 2024 Le Petit Haut Lafitte reveals a delicate, somber character with aromas of dark berries, spices, gentian and tobacco, mingled with delicate floral notes. Medium-bodied, round and sappy, it's perfectly balanced with a juicy mid-palate framed by an assertive tannic frame and a lead pencil-inflected finish. This year, the distinction between Le Petit and Les Hauts is more clearly defined than in recent vintages.
