2025 Château Pavie Macquin

The 2025 Pavie Macquin is a powerful, structured wine. In most vintages, Pavie Macquin is sensual and silky, but the 2025 is quite tannic in this tasting. Dark-fleshed fruit, chocolate, menthol, licorice, sage and lavender add to an impression of brooding density and pure power. Floral top notes lift the close. I can't wait to see how this ages. Tasted two times.

Perfumed and clear, with aromas of raspberries, flowers and citrus. Medium-bodied, showing fine tannins and a tangy finish with salty undertones. A linear and complex wine with unique balance. 14.1% alcohol. 78% merlot, 20% cabernet franc and 2% cabernet sauvignon. (04/2026)

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2025 Pavie Macquin is a touch shy to start off, offering glimpses of cedar chest and pencil shavings notes before unfurling to reveal a core of black cherries and black raspberries, plus nuances of peonies and forest floor. The medium-bodied palate delivers a crisp line of tension with soft, velvety tannins and bright red and black fruit layers, finishing long and perfumed. The blend is 78% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. The alcohol is 14.1%. (04/2026)

Spicy and deep, with an intense, crunchy cherry-infused fruit, very perfumed and aromatic with note of crunchy red berries. It is very well made and must be considered a success for he vintage ending in a long crunchy aftertaste. (05/2026)
