2021 Riise Doyen

The 2021 Doyen is more Grenache-based and is mixed with 18% Mourvèdre and 17% Syrah that was mostly destemmed and raised in 25% new 500-liter barrels. Red and black fruits, toasted spice, pepper, and savory herb and floral notes all define this beauty, and it's full-bodied, has a pure, layered mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish. Coming from a blend of the Shadow Canyon, Catapult, and Paderewski vineyards, it has a beautiful mix of richness and elegance. It will stand toe-to-toe with the finest Southern Rhônes out there and should have 10-15 years of prime drinking. (08/2024)

The 2021 Doyen is 65% Grenache, 18% Mourvèdre and 17% Syrah, aged in predominately one-year-old 500-liter barrels. The nose is modern and flashy but retains a graceful, composed nuance, with black-fruited aromas accented by toasted tobacco, turned earth and fresh herbs. The palate is ripe, plush and seamless, but as with the nose, refrains from going over the top. The finish is long and layered, with clear delineation and refinement without feeling excessively uniform. - Matthew Luczy (09/2024)
