A BLEND FATED TO HAPPEN

2021 Grange La Chapelle

Penfolds & La Chapelle

Technisches Datenblatt

Vinous: 94 Punkte

The 2021 La Chapelle Grange is an intercontinental 50/50 blend of the 2021 Hermitage La Chapelle and Grange, opening with fragrant violets, black cherry, graphite and peppery subtleties. Touching the full-bodied palate with sweet-tasting fruit and absolutely no rough edges, the seamlessly textured 2021 is built around polished tannins. Impeccably balanced and utterly refined, it winds down with freshness and length on the streamlined finish. - Nicolas Greinacher (02/2025)

James Suckling: 98 Punkte

This extraordinary intercontinental blend of French syrah and Australian shiraz is a great cloud of spices and smoke. Extremely rich and plush, this has a unique texture on the full-bodied, wide-screen palate. The very fine-grained tannins anchor this masterpiece that marries the boldness of Grange at the front with the coolness of La Chapelle at the extremely long finish. The first vintage of this limited production wine that looks set to become a collector’s item. Drink or hold. - Stuart Pigott (02/2025)

Falstaff: 99 Punkte

Sicheres Reifepotenzial. (01/2025)

Decanter: 96 Punkte

Blended from equal portions of Domaine de la Chapelle's Hermitage Syrah and Penfolds' old-vine Shiraz from the Barossa, McLaren Vale and Clare Valley. The wines were made separately and aged in oak, the French portion in 20% new barrels, the Australian portion in 100% new, before being blended in Australia. Smooth creaminess and fresh, ripe, crushed blueberry for now dominates the nose, showing the youthfulness of the wine, still brimming with primary Shiraz fruit. More air adds a lovely scent of clean, cold ashes and slight smokiness. The superbly smooth palate shows ripe, detailed tannins that have some of the sumptuousness of fine, dark chocolate; but all is pervaded by a bright, appetising freshness. A very apt combination of ripeness and freshness that culminates in elegance. While charming now, this will only come into its own with some bottle age. - Anne Krebiehl (02/2025)

As the project progressed, I saw the elegance in Grange and the strength in La Chapelle.

CAROLINE FREY, LA CHAPELLE CHIEF WINEMAKER AND VIGNERON

When things are real, all quickly becomes self-evident … This friendship created an idea, this idea became a trial, the trial became a wine. Who would have thought …
